Thanks for going easy on me guys and for the constructive comments. My next purchase will definitely be tunic and trousers, badged up as a Gebirgsjager Obergefreiter.

I wasn't sure about the Tan & Water or "Sumpfmuster" items when I first bought them. Prior to getting into WWII airsoft, I had been using Flecktarn and knew how effective it was, so I wanted something similar for my late war loadout, but different to the usual SS Oakleaf pattern (although it is arguably the best camo). Basically I still don't know how "issued" my trousers actually were?

Reading a Tan & Water thread on wwiireenacting leads me to beleive that my Spearhead stuff is the Sumpfmuster '44 pattern. http://www.wwiireenacting.co.uk/forum/v ... w=previous

My Sumpfmuster gear is for a Heer Sniper loadout, so if anybody could link me to any threads on this forum or any other good Wehrmacht Sniper websites, threads, books etc I'd be very grateful.

My initial idea was to copy Sepp Allerberger ("Sniper On The Eastern Front"), hence the Gebirgsjager connection, but basically my current look is trying to emulate this guy and I don't think I'm far off it at the moment. (Axel Hass, Heer Sniper, August 1944) :

I've recently installed a tighbore barrel in my Marui M14 and replaced some hop parts, so I'm hoping it will improve my accuracy. If it does I'll consider adding a scope to it for that all important sniper look.

P.S. Beastor, I like the winter '44 look. I've just ordered a reversible smock in time for the snow disappearing.......typical! What make/pattern of jacket/smock is that you're wearing?

Dont use dollies for reference material. They are notoriously full of errors and omissions.
This one isn't so bad but some are shockingly bad. It's a bad habit to get into.
What you have going on is pretty good as a starter.

Thought I'd post here for laughs and/or giggles... :)

Did some woodland shots here. I'm aware I'm missing Hauptsturmfuhrer Epulattes but hey. Working on that!

Thats different.

A lot of people steer clear of the BFC.

Indeed, BFC is generally considered a No-No! May I politely suggest you remove the BFC arm patch and draw your attention to this thread:

And your hair should stop above your ears, not below your shoulders :giggle:

That's not a dig either mate - there's a few long haired Landsers in our little group :good:

Wow, serious replies XD

The Badge there is merely to show I'm british. Some people don't seem to grasp it when looking through my gallery. Its location based on the limited pictures I have. I think I might remove it cause its wonky anyway :P

As for my hair, I do need to do something about it really. Its too long to manage XD

They were all serious replies. Long hair looks a bit daft and sort of negates dressing the part. Steiner used to have long hair and tucked it up into his cap successfully, as do others, and is a simple solution. I made my hair fall out so I wouldn't be faced with the problem

And the BFC is most definitely a serious comment, it won't go down well really nor fit in with any event scenario...

I'll sort my hair out so that won't be a problem. The BFC thingy is coming off now. Well, after I stitch my insignia onto my new tunic

EDIT: Okay, because of the advice of the people here the BFC badge isn't on my uniform anymore. It'll probably rot in a drawer somewhere.

In lighter news my new uniform stuff arrived. Unterstumfuhrer on a M40 tunic with normal white cotton thread Eagles. Nice epulattes though those bug me when it comes to fitting them... :? Will get some pictures when its done. though I have some Scharfuhrer tabs on a greatcoat. Might go for that :)

Don't put rank patches on a greatcoat. Or a cufftitle generally. Please take some time to purchase a book or two on uniforms and how they go together. People will help on here but a little self help goes a long way and adds to the pride factor when you put something together well.

Browse the net and look at original wartime pictures of ordinary soldiers not the personalities or "heroes". Create your look around that. Don't be tempted to go for the exotic sounding ranks and decorations - You might find yourself as a Hauptsturmfuhrer being commanded by a Gefreiter!

I've seen pics of Germans wearing greatcoats with Gefreiter chevrons. Are they an anomaly?

To be fair, this greatcoat is used in a particular costume so to get the detail from the reference shots I put those tabs on.. :?

@B &H - Correct - I should correct the statement to reflect more accurately what I wished to convey - Don't put collar insignia on a greatcoat.

There was an order which allowed patches and then there was a further order rescinding that and forbidding the use of collar patches. Same with greatcoats. You CAN see cufftitles on some but not the majority. Keeping a greatcoat plain makes it more versatile for our purposes..... Rank was often displayed on Shoulder boards.

Excellent as i was going to say that for Freshman that you'd booked in as BFC patches wouldn't be allowed!

Long hair isnt an issue though one or two of our group conceal long hair very well.

One chap tend to put it in a high ponytail and under the headwear (shaving the back of the neck helps too) while mcVickers advocates a low ponytail, hair down the back of the tunic and sweatrag/scarf concealing the join.

Both work equally well, our chap did the Crich re-enactment show last year with his hair under his beret and *nobody* noticed.
